From the start till the beginning

I am writing this blog because i felt nostalgic when i saw a picture of my first paper quill jewellery this morning. So if you are having a boring day or a don’t-know-what day, read on! I am not sure if your day will get any brighter but may get less boring :P

If you have followed my blog, you probably know that I didn’t begin showcasing my talents on Facebook - LadiesFingers until my friends who already were showcasing their talents had forced me into it. Even though I started with beading jewellery before I started with paper quilling. I have written a lot about my beading jewellery experience in my previous posts so this time, I will dedicate it to the paper.

Flower vase made of
plastic and paper
I always used to make something recyclable.. I have never done anything to do sold! I used to make flower vases out of plastic bottles at home but my base was always making something good out of unused/ old items. There was this one time I painted a wooden mirror at home because i thought it looked too plain :P To me, everything has to be colorful! I cannot do light colors, there has to some of my signature colors or designs! :P

One usual day, i was at work and went to eBay was just browsing through something on paper quilling, I don’t know how i landed there. I bought a paper quilling kit for INR 499 (that i remember :P). At this point, i didn’t have a clue about what paper quilling was and when the kit came home, it had a list of instructions and ideas listed on it but what i did was nothing listed on them instead i made my own pair of earrings. Two of them!

I know inborn talent right? :P Sometimes, i think you really don’t know your strengths. I wore these earrings to work, Mum was telling her friends about my paper jewellery. However I had no idea that the entire world was behind paper jewellery and paper quilling was a very old technique. I did get some good comments from my friends but I didn’t have the intention as well to sell them because i didn’t know if i was ready yet.

First pair - Paper quilled jewellery
Then, i found itsybitsy website that was my first online shopping for paper strips. I bought loads of them. I think i have some problem buying anything in less quantity :P Well so i bought them and started making a few jewellery, fortunately, my job gave me some time to look into the internet.. And so I researched about paper quilling and eventually realized that I was the last person to know about paper quilling :P
Second pair - Paper quilled jewellery

My first piece started with a necklace (i don’t seem to have a picture of this though). One of my colleague from office wanted a jewellery to gift her relative and then a few feedback she bought them. Another colleague ordered a similar design but in different colors. So goes the story of my paper quilling and there have been many things i tried many thing i looked up on the internet and I recently bought Cecelia Louie’s book on paper quilling and hope to learn a lot more, I already think its fantabulous ;)

When this all comes to me, i feel i have come a long way and if you have looked at my creations of paper quilling, you would comment yourself that it looks way better than where i started.

I think everyone should take a moment of their time and think how far we have made it. Hobbies, Personal life, office life, dont-want life that we have all made this far and I am getting emotional writing :P

So what I am trying to tell you is that someday you may feel “what have I done in my life”, exactly that minute take a moment to see in reality that you have come so far and that should get you moving forward and not think otherwise for a second! And you need a mother, two sisters, three cockatiel birds, and friends to get yourself going further!

There is always a start never an "end" but only a beginning!

Regards,
Sree
